Philip Garling AM is retiring from his position as Chairman of the NCIG Board of Directors. Phil commenced his role as Chairman in 2018, bringing with him a wealth of experience in executive and board positions and a distinguished career spanning more than 40 years in the mining, energy, property and infrastructure sectors.
Phil’s appointment marked the beginning of a new era for NCIG, and under his stewardship the business achieved many significant milestones while maintaining a strong commitment to safety, sustainability, and innovation in the coal export sector.
One of the hallmarks of Phil’s tenure at NCIG has been the Board’s emphasis on transparency, collaboration, and safety. Under Phil’s stewardship, NCIG has fostered an organisational culture focused on risk management, safety protocols, and continuous improvement. These efforts have contributed to NCIG’s award-winning Safety Culture Score.
Phil’s vision for NCIG has focused on maintaining operational excellence while staying ahead of industry trends and embracing innovative technologies. During his tenure as Chairman, Phil has overseen management efforts to modernise the terminal, streamline operations, and expand capability.
Under Phil’s leadership, NCIG has adopted a more robust approach to environmental sustainability and has invested in initiatives that reduce the environmental impact of coal transport and export. These include the recycled water management system, emissions reduction technologies, and sustainable waste management practices.
Phil’s leadership has been characterised by vision, integrity, and a strong commitment to the region and its future. His unwavering support for both NCIG and the broader community has made a lasting impact.
