Senior Study Engineer

Lead the early phases of NCIG’s major repairs and maintenance lifecycle, including project identification, concept development, feasibility assessment, and major maintenance planning.

Working closely with Engineering, Maintenance and other key stakeholders, the role contributes to the development, prioritisation, and optimisation of major works within the long-term asset plan to ensure the ongoing reliability, performance, and sustainability of NCIG’s infrastructure assets.

The role is responsible for leading the development of projects from concept through to solution definition, including options analysis, deliver strategy evaluation, cost estimation, scheduling, and recommendation of the preferred solution.

The Senior Study Engineer provides technical input to support project justification and business case development and acts as the key interface between Engineering, Maintenance and Projects to ensure major works are effectively scoped, developed and transitioned into execution.

During project execution phases, the role provides technical support and subject matter expertise to the Projects Team as required.

Key accountabilities will include but are not limited to

  • Lead the identification, development and assessment of major maintenance and infrastructure projects
  • Conduct feasibility studies, options analysis and risk assessments
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, schedules and execution strategies
  • Prepare high-quality written study reports, business cases and recommendations
  • Present to steering committees, Senior Leadership and Executive Leadership teams
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Maintenance, Commercial and Projects teams to define project requirements
  • Manage multiple concurrent studies across various stages of the project lifecycle
  • Support long-term asset maintenance planning and capital forecasting
  • Facilitate successful project handover into delivery phases
  • Engage and manage key internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide technical support and engineering expertise during project execution as required
  • Champion safety, environmental and compliance standards across all activities

To thrive in this role, candidates would have the following education and experience:

  • Degree qualification in Mechanical, Civil, Structural or related Engineering discipline
  • Significant experience in heavy industrial engineering environments
  • Proven experience in project development, feasibility studies and early-phase project management
  • Strong capability in options analysis, business case development and project justification
  • Experience managing project scope, costs, schedules and risks
  • Excellent written communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to influence and engage stakeholders across multiple business functions
  • Strong analytical, planning and problem-solving capabilities
  • Proficiency with project management, scheduling and document control systems
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety leadership and HSEC excellence
