Providing critical logistical export services for the Hunter Valley coal chain
Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group owns and operates one of Australia's major coal export terminals.
NCIG connects high quality coal from the Hunter Valley, the Western Coalfields of NSW and as far away as the Gunnedah Basin to energy and manufacturing markets around the world. Our core business is to work with our customers to safely transport their coal from rail to ship. Our terminal receives an average of 20 trains per day and has a working capacity to store up to 4.5 million tonnes of coal. We load ships of up to 300 metres long that can carry up to 165,000 tonnes. We also facilitate inbound and outbound sampling of the coal stream to provide assurance to our customers that their product is handled according to their quality specifications.
Commitment to the Hunter Valley coal chain
NCIG is a key component of Australia’s multi-billion-dollar coal industry. As a major coal export terminal, we provide an essential service to the Hunter Valley coal chain and generate strong economic benefits for our local and national economies. Our customers’ coal is transported from the Hunter Valley by rail to our terminal. We carefully manage these products through the process of them being unloaded and stored in our stockyards until being loaded onto ships.
About the coal we handle
The coal that moves through NCIG is predominantly high-energy low emissions (HELE) thermal coal, which is exported to international markets such as Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, and India, where it is typically utilised by power stations for electricity generation.
