NCIG named Organisation of the Year

September 05, 2023

NCIG was proud to receive the Organisation of the Year award at the recent Newcastle Business Club Awards luncheon. This award is in recognition of our significant contribution to the commonwealth of the city of Newcastle.

Newcastle Business Club President, Liz Murray presented the award to NCIG’s CEO, Aaron Johansen. “NCIG’s commitment to sustainable practices and community well-being embodies the essence of responsible leadership and lasting positive impact. Newcastle Business Club proudly recognisises Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group for its invaluable role in providing a premier export service and its significant contributions to the commonwealth of Newcastle as an integral part of the hunter region.”

NCIG employs over 100 locals, supports community groups through targeted grants and actively cares for the environment with a robust biodiversity programme. Through our Sustainability Strategy we have made a public commitment to minimise the impact of our operations.

Initiatives under the Strategy include the recently commissioned Recycled Water Project which is delivering 275ML of household water back to the Hunter network for use in the community—the equivalent annual water usage of 1,700 households; the Community Support Initiatives which in FY23 awarded funding to 59 community organisations and was further supported by 70 employees volunteering their time to support the programs and projects that make our region shine.

Other commitments made through our Sustainability Strategy include keeping 70% of our procurement spend local and managing 102 hectares of biodiversity conversation land, ensuring that endangered migratory shorebirds are monitored and protected.

This award is recognition to every member of our team and their efforts in achieving our ambitious sustainability goals. We are a proud member of the Hunter region and are committed to empowering our region to continue to thrive, prosper and develop in the most sustainable way possible.
